NEW DELHI: Testing of the coronavirus vaccination program began Monday in four states, a day after India recorded its lowest single-day increase in Covid-19 cases in nearly six months.
The two-day trial starting Monday in four states is ahead of the Center’s proposed ambitious vaccination campaign, which will likely begin in January.
What is an essay?
To assess the readiness of the established mechanism for the Covid-19 vaccination campaign, the Center has planned a dry test on December 28 and 29 in four states of Punjab, Assam, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat.
A trial aims to test planned operations and established mechanisms for Covid-19 vaccination in the state. It will provide information on gaps or bottlenecks so they can be addressed before the actual driving begins.
The exercise will include entering the necessary data in Co-WIN, an online platform to monitor the delivery of vaccines, the receipt and assignment of tests, the deployment of team members, mock session sites with the beneficiaries of the proof.
It will also include testing for cold storage and transportation arrangements for the Covid-19 vaccine, crowd management at the session sites with adequate physical distance.
How are drills conducted?
The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said the detailed checklist has been prepared and shared with the four states to guide them through the trial.
The test would be carried out in five sessions at identified locations with 25 test beneficiaries (health workers) for each session.
Each state will plan it in two districts and preferably in different five session settings, for example, district hospital, CHC / PHC, urban site, private health center, rural outreach, etc.
All beneficiaries will be pre-identified. Beneficiaries must pre-register on the Co-WIN portal and must also provide their photo IDs.
After the test, the authorities will prepare a report for the State Task Force (STF). The STF will review the comments and guide officials on future actions. The report will also be submitted to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
How many people have been trained
The government has already trained the participants who will administer the vaccine.
Detailed training modules have been developed for different categories of vaccine handlers and administrators, including medical officers, vaccinators, alternative vaccinators, cold chain handlers, supervisors, data managers, ASHA coordinators, and others.
2,360 participants were trained during the nationwide training, which included state immunization officials, cold chain officials, IEC officials, and development partners.
As of today, state-level training has been completed in all states and Union territories (UT) with the participation of more than 7,000 district-level trainees, except for Lakshadweep which will take place on December 29 .
In cascade, 681 districts (49,604 trainees) have completed training of medical officers on operational guidelines. Vaccination team training was completed in 1,399 of the 17,831 planning blocks / units, according to the government.
Putting the cold chain to the test
The current cold chain system consisting of 85,634 equipment for the storage of vaccine At approximately 28,947 cold chain points across the country it will be used for cold chain management as vaccines are temperature sensitive and must be stored at a specific temperature.
The current cold chain is capable of storing additional amount of Covid-19 vaccine required for the first three million rupees of prioritized population: healthcare workers and frontline workers.
