“A caregiver must be available to provide care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A link of communication between the caregiver and the hospital is a prerequisite for the entire duration of home isolation. The caregiver and all Close contacts of such cases should take hydroxychloroquine prophylaxis according to protocol and as prescribed by the attending physician, “he said.
In addition, the Ministry of Health asked people to download the Aarogya Setu app on mobile and it must remain active at all times (via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi).
In addition, the patient will agree to monitor their health and periodically report their health status to the District Surveillance Officer for subsequent surveillance teams.
“The patient will complete a task of self-isolation and will follow the guidelines for quarantine at home,” said the Ministry.
When to seek medical attention:
The patient / caregiver will continue to monitor their health. Immediate medical attention should be sought if serious signs or symptoms develop. These could include: shortness of breath, persistent chest pain / pressure, mental confusion or inability to wake up, development of bluish discoloration of the lips / face and as advised by the attending physician.
When to suspend insulation at home:
The patient undoes the home insulation and the home insulation after 17 days of the onset of symptoms (or the sampling date, for pre-symptomatic cases) and without fever for 10 days. Testing is not necessary after the isolation period has ended.
The Ministry of Health has also instructed caregivers and patients.
Instructions for caregivers:
- The caregiver should wear a triple-layer medical mask appropriately when in the same room with the sick person. The front of the mask must not be touched or manipulated during use. If the mask gets wet or dirty with accretions. It must be changed immediately. Discard the use of masks and apply hand hygiene after disposing of the mask.
- He / She should avoid touching the face, nose or mouth.
- Hand hygiene should be ensured after contact with a sick person or his immediate surroundings.
- Hand hygiene should also be practiced before and after preparing food, before eating, after using the bathroom, and whenever hands appear dirty. Use soap and water to wash your hands for at least 40 seconds. An alcohol-based hand sanitizer can be used if the hands are not visibly dirty.
- After using soap and water, it is desirable to use disposable paper towels to dry your hands. If not available, use exclusive clean cloth towels and replace when wet.
Exposure to a patient:
- Avoid direct contact with the patient’s body fluids, particularly oral or respiratory secretions. Wear disposable gloves while handling the patient. Perform hand hygiene before and after wearing gloves.
- Avoid exposure to potentially contaminated items in your immediate environment (for example, avoid sharing eating utensils, dishes, drinks. Used towels or bedding).
- Food should be provided to the patient in his room.
- Utensils and dishes used by the patient should be cleaned with soap / detergent and gloves with water. Utensils and dishes can be reused. Wash your hands after removing gloves or handling the used item.
- Wear a triple layer medical mask and disposable gloves when cleaning or handling surfaces. Clothing or clothing worn by the patient. Perform hand hygiene before and after removing gloves.
- The doctor will ensure that the patient follows the prescribed treatment.
- The caregiver and all close contacts will monitor their health with a daily temperature check and will report immediately if they develop any symptoms suggestive of COVID-I9 (fever / cough / shortness of breath).
Patient instructions:
- The patient must wear a triple layer medical mask at all times. Discard the mask after 8 hours of use or sooner if they become clean or visibly dirty.
- The mask should be discarded only after disinfecting with 1% sodium hypochlorite.
- The patient should stay in the identified room and away from other people in the home, especially the elderly and people with comorbid conditions such as hypertension, cardiovascular disease, kidney disease, etc.
- The patient should rest and drink plenty of fluids to maintain adequate hydration.
- Follow respiratory labels at all times.
- Hands should be washed often with soap and water for at least 40 seconds or cleaned with an alcohol-based disinfectant.
- Do not share personal items with other people.
- Clean frequently touched surfaces in the room (tables, door knobs, handles, etc.) with a 1% hypochlorite solution.
- The patient must strictly follow the doctor’s instructions and medication advice.
- The patient will control his health by himself with a daily control of the temperature and will inform immediately if he develops any deterioration of the symptoms.
