Days after accessing information that the Government of India is discussing with airlines to begin scheduled commercial flight services after the closure on May 17, CNN-News18 has accessed exclusive information that domestic flight services could resume long before that. It could even get up as soon as in the next two to three days.

According to the main government sources, the decision is not yet final. The government has established a detailed SOP to resume flight services, some of which do not include meal service lasting less than two hours. However, some snacks can still be offered.

The flights, once operational, must operate in limited capacity and will connect the main cities. Taking into account the safety of the passengers and personnel involved in the operation of a flight, SOPs will be placed and only healthy people will be allowed to travel.

These are some of the SOPs established by the government before resuming flight services in stages:

– No meal service on flights with a travel duration of less than two hours

– Some kind of snack will be served

– Only healthy people can travel

– Cabin luggage is not allowed

– Only web registration is allowed

– No use of common areas like smoking and prayer rooms

– Mandatory to have the Aarogya Setu application on the phone

– Mandatory use of protective equipment such as mask and hand gloves.

– Passengers will complete a form stating their COVID-19 history, if they were quarantined

– Separate seats in the back for suspicious people.

Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has recently commissioned several unique technology-based facilities at Delhi Airport, including specially designed UV (ultraviolet) based tunnels to disinfect control trays and luggage, the mobile tower UV to disinfect surfaces in the terminal and handheld area UV Devices. In addition, the passenger car disinfection system and disinfecting shoe mats will also be available for passenger safety.

Used carts and trays can be passed one after the other, where each one will take approximately five seconds to go virus free. DIAL also installed a UV tunnel in Terminal 3 of Delhi airport that will help disinfect passenger bags. The prototype has been installed in the luggage belt area.

A live CCTV feed from the UV scanning process mounted in the Baggage Claim room allows passengers to view the disinfection process, in which high intensity UV lamps are used for online disinfection of their bags.

Regarding the goal of providing improved IAQ (indoor air quality), DIAL has also installed more than 700 UV lamps in AHU (312 units). To improve passenger safety and comply with COVID-19 security measures, mobile disinfection towers have been developed and supplied at the airport to disinfect various locations in the terminal buildings.

These mobile towers will be placed in duly cordoned off areas of the terminal, where UV lamps will be operated and disinfected in particular areas. Once the disinfection is complete, the UV energy will be turned off and the towers will be manually relocated to other areas for similar processes.

Additionally, the hand sanitizing torch will also be available at the airport to sanitize desktops, laptops, and other devices.
