The government is alert and there is no need to panic, Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan said on Monday after a new strain of coronavirus was detected in the UK.
“The government is fully aware of everything. If you ask me, there is no reason to panic from the way we are looking at this press conference, ”Vardhan said. “I would tell everyone this that all these imaginary situations, imaginary talks, imaginary panic … Don’t get involved in this,” the minister told reporters while answering a question about panic over the new strain and a demand to ban flights from the UK.
He said that the government had done everything that was important to handle the Covid-19 situation in the last year.
Hours earlier, Delhi’s chief minister, Arvind Kejriwal, urged the central government to ban flights from the UK.
“A new corona virus mutation has emerged in the UK, which is a super-propagator. I urge the central government to ban all flights from the UK immediately, ”Kejriwal tweeted.
The UK announced a surprise shutdown Saturday in London and parts of the country amid a surge in coronavirus disease cases following the discovery of a new strain of the Sars-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19. According to experts, the new strain could be up to 70% more infectious, prompting its European neighbors and several other countries to ban travelers from entering the country.
