Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan admitted on Sunday that India is in the community spread COVID virus stage.

However, it is limited to only certain districts and states. The statement has come in the context of west bengalChief Minister Mamata banerjeeHe admitted on Monday that community transmission of COVID-19 has started in the state.

Vardhan’s statement was a response to a query made during his weekly webinar, ‘Sunday Samvaad’, where he interacts with his audience on social media.

The query was “Mamta Banerjee has said that there are cases of community transmission in the state. Are there other states with community transmission as well?”

To this, the minister replied: “In different places in various states, including West Bengal, community transmission is expected to occur, especially in dense areas. However, this is not happening across the country. It is limited to certain state districts. “.

Admission comes after months of denial. This is the first time that the Minister of Health has recognized community transmission.

Earlier this week, Banerjee had urged the people of West Bengal to remain cautious before the upcoming Durga Puja season.

“I ask everyone to follow the Covid-19 safety protocols during the holiday season. There are cases of community transmission of Covid-19 and also the contagion is transmitted through the air,” said Banerjee.

In July, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had released a guidance document that had inadvertently revealed that community transmission occurred in India as early as April.

The document was later removed from the union’s Ministry of Health website.
