Google has formally acknowledged and fixed the global system outage that affected Gmail, YouTube and other major Google services, forcing them to go offline for nearly an hour on Monday. The global search engine giant has revealed the reason why this happened and at the same time promised that it would ensure that something like this never happens again.

In India, the outage appeared to have started around 5:00 pm, according to the Down detector and the tracking website evidently came close to exploiting the money.

The way things had worked out, and the way Google services were inaccessible to a large number of people around the world, initially seemed to suggest that the problem was related to Google accounts, rather than services. from Google itself. This is because some users were able to access some of these Google services in incognito mode and / or if they were not logged in. Turns out that was the case.

“Today at 3.47 am PT (5:17 pm IST), Google experienced an authentication system outage for approximately 45 minutes due to an internal storage quota issue. Services that require users to log in experienced high error rates during this period. The authentication system issue was resolved at 4:32 am PT (6:02 pm IST). All services are now restored, ”a Google spokesperson said in an emailed statement. “We apologize to all those affected and we will conduct a comprehensive follow-up review to ensure this issue does not recur in the future.”

Google probably has some of the most used services. Its video-sharing platform YouTube, for example, is said to record more than 2 billion logins every month. More than 12,000 YouTube users around the world, including those in the US and India, were affected by Monday’s outage. One cannot stress enough about the inconvenience users might have faced when their most popular work and chat apps like Google Meet suddenly stopped working for hundreds of thousands of users at the same time.
