Google Pay is still unavailable on iPhone and there are no in-app warnings about potential payment issues

The Google Pay digital payments app is not yet available to Apple iPhone users in India. The Google Pay app, formerly known as Google Tez, was not listed on the Apple App Store yesterday and is not yet available. Google confirmed yesterday that the app wasn’t on the list to fix some issues, while those who already have the Google Pay app installed on their iPhones may face temporary payment glitches. This comes at a time when there is considerable buzz around online shopping, particularly with sales on multiple shopping websites, including Amazon and Flipkart, ahead of the Diwali festival. Google Pay for Android phones has no known issues at this time and normal service continues.

Yesterday, Google had said in a statement shared with News18 that the Google Pay application will not be available briefly in the Apple App Store while developers try to fix some problems. “The Google Pay app for iOS will be temporarily out of the App Store; Users will be able to see the new app update reappear shortly. A small number of Apple iOS users may experience persistent payment failures in their transactions. Our teams are working to fix it as soon as possible. Meanwhile, affected users can contact Google Pay support through the app for help. We apologize for the inconvenience to our users, ”said the Google spokesperson. The company has not specified the exact nature of these problems.

Right now, searching for Google Pay in Apple’s iPhone App Store lists rival digital payment platforms, such as PhonePe, Paytm, and Amazon, which has the Amazon Pay service. Interestingly, if you already have the Google Pay app installed on your iPhone and open it to make a transaction or payment, the app doesn’t seem to warn users of potential payment failures. From what we understand from Google’s statement, a small number of Apple iOS users may experience non-payment issues at this time.

This comes at a time when digital payments, particularly Unified Payment Interface (UPI) transactions, have seen steady growth in recent months. According to data from the National Payments Corporation of India released earlier this month, UPI transactions of 180 million rupees worth up to 3.29 million rupees were completed in September. This represents an increase in transactions of Rs 161 crore in August, the latest chapter in what has been a steady increase in UPI transactions with more online purchases and payments taking place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Google Pay relies heavily on UPI payments, especially for iPhone users, although the Google Pay app for Android supports certain credit cards as well.
