Why is September 5 celebrated as Teacher’s Day?
The anniversary of the birth of Dr. S Radhakrishnan marks the day to celebrate the teachers of India. He was one of the greatest teachers of his time.
Dr. Radhakrishnan was the first vice president of India and the second president of India. He served in the office from 1962 to 1967. The history of Teacher’s Day dates back to the time when he took office as President of India. Dr. Radhakrishnan’s students made a special request of him. He wanted to make September 5 a special day for him. Instead, he, being the great man that he was, said, “I ask all of you to honor all the teachers of India on this day.” Since then, it has been celebrated on the fifth day of each September in homage to the efforts of our country’s teachers.
