More than a month since the last Covid-19 case was detected on April 3, Goa’s Green Zone classification is now under threat after seven new cases emerged on Wednesday. Goa stated that it had zero Covid-19 cases on May 1.
“Everyone tested positive,” confirmed Health Minister Vishwajit Rane. All seven are stable and are being treated.
Of the seven, five belong to a family: husband and wife, their son and daughter, and a one-year-old granddaughter of a second daughter. They were returning from Sholapur to their home when they were evaluated at a northern Goa facility, according to the state testing protocol.
The other two cases are from two different destinations. One is a trucker returning from Gujarat after collecting drums for a small-scale industry in Goa, as the industries were now open. And the other a driver returning from Mumbai.
All seven initially tested positive for the TrueNat Covid-19 test and were then sent to Goa Medical College late at night for the second confirmatory RT-PCR test. They were brought to the ESI Covid-19 hospital at 5 am and examined.
To date, Goa has evaluated 6,151 people, of whom 14 have tested positive. The state now has seven active cases.
