‘Go Corona Go’ fame Ramdas Athawale tests positive for coronavirus, hospitalized in Mumbai

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale tested positive for the new coronavirus on Tuesday. The leader of the Republican Party of India (A) has been admitted to a private hospital in South Mumbai.

Athawale attended an event in Mumbai on Monday to induct actress Payal Ghosh into the Republican Party of India (A). After Payal Ghosh’s induction, Athawale was tested for Covid-19.

Payal Ghosh, who had accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of rape, joined Athawale’s Republican Party of India (A) yesterday. She was appointed vice president of the women’s wing of RPI (A).

“I thank you for joining the party and I welcome you,” Athawale said.

The Union Minister’s ‘Go Corona Go’ chant became a national sensation. “I gave the slogan in February, when the Covid-19 situation was not that bad in India,” Athawale said.

“At that time people were saying, will this make the crown disappear? Now we are seeing this motto all over the world,” he added.

In February, a video of Athawale, also with a Chinese diplomat and Buddhist monks chanting “Go crown, see crown” at a prayer meeting went viral on social media.

The video was reportedly filmed at the India Gate here on February 20 during a prayer session to stop the spread of the coronavirus in China.

Athawale, 60, is a member of Rajya Sabha and minister of state for social justice in the ministry led by Narendra Modi.

The minister is also diabetic, said an aide.

On October 26, Maharashtra’s Senior Deputy Minister Ajit Pawar also tested positive for Covid-19 and was admitted to the Breach Candy hospital in South Mumbai.
