Give us priority in vaccine distribution: Kerala to Center

KERALA HAS requested the Center to prioritize the distribution of Covid-19 vaccines, considering the high number of cases in the state and to make the most of its strategy of delaying the peak in the containment of the disease.

Kerala Health Minister KK Shailaja said The Indian Express that the state government has asked the central government to give priority to the state so that it can soon control the pandemic. The state government cited its epidemiological conditions – it has a high number of cases related to heart disease and diabetes – and its population density, as well as its strategy to contain the disease to justify its demand.

“Our strategy has been to delay the peak. Although we were the first state to report the disease, cases in the state have peaked at this time. Despite the vulnerability and susceptibility of our population, we have been successful in our strategy. So to get the most out of our strategy, we must first get vaccinated, ”Mohammad Asheel, executive director of the Kerala Social Security Mission under the Department of Social Justice, told The Indian Express.

He said the state’s test positivity rate is still 10 percent. “At no time were 25 percent of our fans busy,” he said.

Kerala continues to report around 5,000 cases daily, which is the highest in the country and has been this continuous for over a month.
