Give Injections to Frontline Workers Beginning Feb 1, Center Tells States | India News

NEW DELHI: With the aim of accelerating the vaccination campaign against Covid-19, the Center has asked all states and territories of the Union to begin inoculating front-line workers simultaneously with the health workforce from the first week of February.
“The required doses of both types of vaccines (ie Covishield and Covaxin) have been allocated and a further increase will be made through later versions,” Additional Health Secretary Manohar Agnani said in a letter to the states and UT the Friday.
The government has estimated around 3 million frontline and healthcare workers, in both the public and private sectors, who will receive the vaccines in the first round likely to be completed in April.
So far, more than 94 lakh from healthcare and 61 lakh from frontline workers have registered on the Co-WIN platform.
More than 33.7 lakhs of healthcare workers have already received the first dose of the vaccine in the last two weeks since the campaign was launched on January 16. Ten states account for more than 72% of the nearly 30 lakh people vaccinated against Covid-19 so far. UP now accounts for the largest share of 12.6% in total vaccination, followed by Karnataka with around 9%.

More than 4.4 lakh beneficiaries were vaccinated through 10,061 sessions as of Friday night. The government hopes that the simultaneous start of vaccinating front-line workers will speed up the campaign.
“States / UTs should ensure that sessions are created for both types of vaccines in proportion to the release of vaccines to the state, where appropriate,” the ministry letter said.
