‘Give hope’: Rahul Gandhi and Mehbooba Mufti congratulate Joe Biden after victory in US elections


Indian leaders, including Rahul Gandhi from Congress, and Mehbooba Mufti from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), reached messages of congratulations for Joe Biden, when he secured his place in the White House on Saturday night, defeating Donald Trump. Gandhi and Mufti were among the first to wish Biden good luck for the presidency.

“Congratulations to President-elect @JoeBiden. I am sure it will unite America and give it a strong sense of direction, ”Rahul Gandhi tweeted. He also tweeted Kamala Harris and said that her victory makes Indians proud that the first woman to serve as the vice president of the United States has her roots in India.

Mehbooba Mufti congratulated Biden and said that the Democratic Party victory gave everyone hope that right-wing extremism will sooner or later go down in history. “Congratulations to President-Elect @JoeBiden and Vice-President-Elect @KamalaHarris. His victory gives hope to the rest of the world that right-wing extremism and those who sow division and hatred will sooner or later be relegated to the pages of history as Donald Trump, ”he tweeted.

Congressional Leader Shashi Tharoor applauded Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for the victory and said he was delighted to have a vice president of the United States who enjoys ‘idlis’ and does ‘dosas’.

Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had another when he tweeted: “Losing Bihar and the White House a few days apart would be some pretty bad days.”

“It’s quite accurate that Trump was on one of his golf courses when @JoeBiden’s election was called considering how much golf he has played in the last 4 years. Now he will have all the time in the world to 🏌️‍♂️ (play golf) ”, he also tweeted.
