JAIPUR: After testing positive for Covid-19 on the day of her marriage, a bride married in personal protective equipment (PPE) to a government teacher at the Covid-19 care center in the Kelwara area from Baran on Monday night.
Among the allowed guests was the father of the bride for performing ‘kanya daan’. The other three people who attended the wedding were from the three-member committee made up of the Baran District Collector comprising the Subdivisional Magistrate, Kelwara Station Officer and Block Medical Director Dr. Arif, for ensuring that the marriage is solemnized with the complete Covid-19 protocol. .

“The marriage was made following the entire Covid-19 protocol. Even the pundit who came to celebrate the marriage was also wearing personal protective equipment, ”said Dr. Sampat Raj Nagar, Baran’s director of medical health.
The bride belongs to Nahargarh from the Kishanganj block of Baran district. “A couple of days ago, the girlfriend’s uncle and aunt tested positive for Covid-19. When contact tracing was done, samples were taken from the bride and other family members. The result of the test report was received today (Monday) morning, which was also the day of the marriage. Bride and her mother tested positive, ”Dr. Arif said.
Before the health department team could reach her home in Nahargarh of the Kishanganj block, they learned that she had already gone with her family to Kelwara of the Shahbad block of the Baran district.
The team from the health department rushed to the place where the marriage was being solemnized. When the teams arrived at the scene, they persuaded that marriage cannot happen as the bride tested positive and once she recovered, they will only be allowed to marry.
The family insisted that they cannot postpone the marriage as they must follow the old rituals and traditions. After a long discussion with the district administration, it was decided to perform the marriage at the Covid care center without any guests, only the pundit and the father of the bride were allowed. The district administration formed a three-member team to monitor the marriage and ensure the Covid-19 protocol. The health department provided the PPE kits to the bride and groom, pundits and father of the bride. A mandap (a place where the marriage took place) was installed at the Covid care center. Pandit chanted mantras using PPE equipment.
After the marriage, the bride was admitted to the Covid care center along with her mother, who tested positive for Covid, as her father tested negative, she was allowed to go home. The groom was also admitted to the Covid care center as a suspected Covid patient and his samples were taken and sent for testing for Covid-19.
