Trade union minister Smriti Irani’s parade was stopped and Amethi’s MP was interrupted by congressional workers in Varanasi on Saturday after she criticized Rahul Gandhi’s planned visit to Hathras as “politics about rape”.

At a press conference, Irani said action will be taken against the rapists of the 20-year-old Dalit woman after the Special Investigation Team (SIT) presents its report.

“Everyone should oppose and protest against such heinous crimes. I have asked the CM (Yogi Adityanath) to act. Two officials have been suspended. I am sure action will be taken after SIT submits its report. The Modi government has always protected the rights of women and their future. The Yogi Adityanath government will take appropriate action against the accused. “

Irani added that women from the Samajwadi Party had met with her personally to request that the victim’s name not be revealed on social media.

In an investigation on Rahul Gandhi, he said: “In a democratic country, everyone has understood the politics of the Congress party. That’s why we were elected in 2014. If someone wants to make politics about rape, I can’t stop him. “

Soon after, the leader of Congress, Randeep Singh Surjewala, attacked Irani.

The 19-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped in a village in Hathras by four men on 14 September. After her condition worsened, she was referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she took her last breath on Tuesday.

She was cremated in the early hours of Wednesday, and her family alleged that local police forced them to perform the last rites in the dead of night. Local police officers, however, had said that the cremation was carried out “according to the wishes of the family.”
