A young German pilot said on Sunday that he traced a giant syringe in the sky as a way to mark the start of the launch of coronavirus vaccines in Germany.
Samy Kramer, a 20-year-old amateur pilot, had carefully mapped out the route he needed to take in advance to create the effect in the skies over Baden-Wuerttemberg.
The maneuvers included a series of 90-degree turns during Wednesday’s flight that lasted one hour and 40 minutes and covered about 280 kilometers (170 miles).
The syringe can be viewed on the Flightradar website.
“I wanted people to think about the day the vaccine will be available,” Kramer, a student, told AFP on Sunday.
Germany launched its official Covid-19 vaccination campaign on Sunday, but the first hits came the day before, and a 101-year-old resident of a nursing home became the first person in the country to be inoculated.
In total, Germany will receive 1.3 million doses before the end of this year and then 11 to 13 million doses at the end of March.
About 65 percent of Germans said they are ready to get vaccinated, according to a poll conducted by YouGov for the German news agency DPA.
