New Delhi:

Border clashes and unprovoked military actions that escalate into a larger conflict cannot be ruled out, Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat said today, according to the PTI news agency, amid Chinese aggression in Ladakh. General Rawat also said that the situation along the Royal Line of Control (LAC), the de facto border between India and China in eastern Ladakh, remains tense.

He said that the Chinese People’s Liberation Army faces “unforeseen consequences” for its misfortune in Ladakh due to the strong responses of the Indian forces. “Our position is unequivocal; we will not accept any change in the Royal Line of Control,” the PTI quoted the Chief of Defense Staff in a webinar organized by the National Defense College.

India and China have held seven rounds of military talks to resolve the clash in Ladakh that began in May and saw an unprecedented escalation in June when 20 Indian soldiers were killed by the country in a physical confrontation with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley.

In August, Chinese soldiers tried to get close to Indian troops who had regained heights at Pangong Tso, and shots were fired into the air for the first time in decades.

We must move away from the constant threat of sanctions or reliance on individual nations for our military requirements and invest in the development of long-term indigenous capabilities for independence. strategy and the application of decisive military power to meet current and emerging challenges, “said General Rawat.

Referring to Pakistan, he said that the “new Indian template for dealing with terror” had injected uncertainty into the country, which was continuing its proxy war through cross-border terror. “The relentless proxy war in Jammu and Kashmir unleashed by Pakistan, accompanied by ruthless rhetoric against India, has pushed ties between India and Pakistan to a new low,” he said.
