The Rajasthan unit of the Congress party, led by Prime Minister Ashok Gehlot, Rajasthan Head of Congress Govind Singh Dotasara, and former Senior Deputy Minister Sachin Pilot, will hold demonstrations against recently passed agricultural laws in Shaheed Smarak of Jaipur demanding its repeal.
Thousands of farmers protest against the 2020 Trade in Agricultural Products and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, the 2020 Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services, and the Essential Products (Amendment) Act of 2020 stating that these laws allow entrepreneurial agriculture and will be beneficial to multinational companies in the agricultural sector.
Gehlot had criticized the Center on Thursday for forcing farmers to welcome the New Year on the streets amid freezing temperatures. “It is sad that our farmer brothers and sisters, who are protesting, welcomed the New Year on the roads and outside the homes. A sensitive and responsive government would never allow this to happen! “Gehlot had tweeted.
The Rajasthan government will also launch a week-long ‘Kisan Bachao-Desh Bachao’ campaign on Tuesday under which ministers, party workers and public representatives will visit towns in the state demanding the repeal of the three laws.
Farmers and the Center will participate in the seventh round of discussions on January 4. Agricultural union leaders have warned that unrest on Delhi’s borders will intensify if demands are not met.
Agricultural leaders have said that the protests will start on January 6 for two weeks if the government does not repeal the laws. “This is our ultimatum. If all the problems are not resolved and our demands are not met by Republic Day, then we will start entering Delhi. The government says that 50% of the demands have been met. But the government has shown no signs of meeting our greatest demands, ”said farmer rights activist and head of Swaraj India Yogendra Yadav on Saturday.
