Cricketer-turned-BJP MP Gautam Gambhir will campaign for the party in the ongoing district development council elections in Jammu and Kashmir, probably next week, a party source said Tuesday.
You can also campaign for the BJP “in a big way” during the West Bengal Assembly elections next year.
“Gambhir will participate as a star activist of the BJP in the DDC polls in the Jammu and Kashmir elections that are expected from December 7-9,” said a source.
The eight-phase DDC elections began on November 28 and will conclude on December 19. The vote count will take place on December 22.
BJP leaders in West Bengal have also shown interest in Gambhir as an activist, who has a large following in the state as he was the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL, the source said.
“The party is exploring options to capitalize on Gambhir’s personality and popularity in the campaign for the high-stakes West Bengal Assembly elections,” he said.
Last year, Gambhir had campaigned for some party candidates during the Haryana Assembly elections, which included former hockey star Sandeep Singh.
Gambhir joined the BJP before the Lok Sabha elections last year. He defeated former Delhi Congress President Arvinder Singh Lovely in the East Delhi seat.
