A day after the styrene gas was leaked, 11 people died in the RR Venkatapuram area of Gopalapatnam in Visakhapatnam, latest reports say that gases began to leak from the tanker gas on Thursday.
“The gas vapors are again escaping from the tanker where styrene was leaking today. About 50 firefighters, with the support of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), are carrying out the operation. The gas, identified as styrene, is also called vinylbenzene, and is used in the manufacture of polystyrene, fiberglass, rubber, and latex plastics.
He further said that 10 more fire bids, including 2 foam bids, are currently present at the scene and ambulances are ready for any emergency.
On Thursday, a leak of chemical vapor from LG Polymers on the outskirts of the coastal city killed 11 people. More than 350 people who inhaled the toxic substance had to be hospitalized.
