A dolphin is beaten to death with sticks and rods by a group of men in a disturbing video that has emerged from Uttar Pradesh. Three men were arrested after the video went viral on social media.

In a tweet, Pratapgarh police said the incident took place on December 31 and that three of the attackers are in jail. The gangetic dolphin is a protected species.

In a display of extreme cruelty, the men in the video are seen throwing blows at the dolphin as blood gushes from its body. Some men can be seen holding the dolphin. “Faaltu mein maar rahe ho yaar (You are attacking him for no reason) ”, you hear someone say but the men do not stop.

As the dolphin bleeds, a man can watch it attack it with an ax and drive the weapon into its body. Towards the end of the video, the dolphin appears to be almost lifeless from the fierce attack.

A forest department official, who responded to a call from the dolphin, allegedly found it lying lifeless next to a canal. He says in a FIR (First Information Report) that there was a crowd of villagers surrounding him, but when asked, no one was willing to reveal how he died. A closer inspection of the body revealed multiple injuries, including ax wounds, the FIR said.

When the video appeared online, the men were identified in a nearby town and captured, according to police.
