Gandhi Jayanti is celebrated on October 2 of each year to mark the anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth. It is observed in all states and territories in India and is one of the officially declared national holidays.
Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi or Mahatma Gandhi was born on October 2, 1869 in Porbandar, Gujarat. This year will mark the 151st anniversary of Gandhi’s birth.
Gandhi’s was a creative resistance that recognizes and also transcends the hurts of the past.
On this day, people celebrate with prayer services, memorial ceremonies, and cultural events that are held in schools, local government institutions, and socio-political institutions. Statues of Mahatma Gandhi are decorated with garlands and flowers. His favourite song Raghupati Raghava it is also sung in some of the meetings. Her birth anniversary is also celebrated in other parts of the world.
The people honor Gandhi’s contributions to the Indian independence movement and his non-violent way of life. He led the Dandi Salt March in 1930. In 1942, he launched the Quit India Movement. He also played a decisive role in the abolition of the ancient practice of untouchability.

Meanwhile, the President and Prime Minister of India often pay tribute at Raj Ghat, Mahatma Gandhi’s Samadhi in New Delhi.
On June 15, 2007, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution declaring October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence. The resolution reaffirms “the universal relevance of the principle of non-violence” and the desire to “ensure a culture of peace, tolerance, understanding and non-violence.”
