NEW DELHI: Former Captain of Australia Allan border create a full fit Jasprit bumrah it will be the key to India’s prospects of retaining the four-game test series Down Under.
Border, who calls himself a big fan of India’s pacing spearhead, said that Bumrah has the potential to make the difference between the two sides in the long-awaited rubber, starting in Adelaide from Thursday.
“Well, I’m a big fan of Bumrah. If he stays in shape. We’re talking about a guy who can win games for you. I care about him because there is a bit of rebound and lateral movement in our shots.” Border said.
“For India to win, I am worried about Bumrah. If he shoots like he did last time, gets important grounds, flicks some feathers with the ball, I think it could be the real difference,” he added before the series. to be broadcast live on Sony Networks.
Bumrah accounted for 21 wickets in four matches in 2018-19, playing a key role in India’s first victory in a test series in Australia.
“You always think your batting lineup will get enough runs, you need 20 wickets to win the Test. If he stays fit, he’s the one who will be key,” added the former Australia captain.
“He (Bumrah) is a ripper. The same way he plays his cricket, he always has a smile on his face. Lethal when he gets his rhythm.”
From Australia’s point of view, Border chose a young off-roader Cameroon Green as the player to be reckoned with in the series.
“For Australia, Cameroon Green is a really good young cricketer. He’s someone to watch. He’s a very tall guy and his hitting is really good, he hits the ball good and he has great technique,” he said. .
Border also said that the Indians will feel the absence of virat Kohli once you return home from the opening test to attend the birth of your first child.
“I agree, there will be a big gap in that lineup, just his (Kohli’s) presence around that team and on the field. I think the Australians will really enjoy that they don’t have to pitch against him for three of the test matches.
“So you want to start racing in Adelaide and try to get India off to a good start and see what happens from there,” he said.
“It’s difficult to replace someone like him. So we have to wait and see the impact he has, but surely the Australians will be the favorites for the games he doesn’t play in. That’s for sure.”
Indian great hitter Sunil Gavaskar agreed with Border, saying Kohli’s return would act as a huge advantage for Australia.
“I think it’s a big boost for the Australians, a man who has six hundred in 12 rounds in Australia. It’s a big boost for the Australians not to play Kohli in the last three rounds,” he said.
“… (But) someone or another from the Indian ranks rises to make up for their absence.
“… And therefore, as I said, although it is going to be a great boost for the Australians, for the Indians it will be a great incentive to improve their game, for everyone to give that extra to make up for their absence.” Gavaskar added .
