Spontaneous street celebrations erupted as the exciting US presidential election came to a close with Democratic candidate Joe Biden surpassing the electoral college’s magic number of 270 votes and securing a historic victory against Donald Trump.

The news of Biden’s victory resulted in celebrations, with much pomp and spectacle, in the main cities of the United States, even outside the White House, in Washington DC.

From New York to Miami in the east and from Denver to Austin in the west, supporters of the former vice president came out and cheered on Biden by dancing, honking and popping champagne after days of pent up post-election anxiety.

Crowds of people flocked to the White House, banging on pots and pans as they chanted “Nah nah nah nah, hey hey hey, bye bye,” at Black Lives Matter Plaza, CNN reported.
