‘From 50,000 in May to over 36 lakh in September, India’s Covid-19 Recoveries Increase Exponentially’: Ministry of Health


The Union Health Ministry said on Sunday that the Covid-19 recovery in India has seen a sharp exponential rise and attributed it to aggressive testing and rapid surveillance. The country’s recovery rate stands at 77.77%.

“Covid-19 recoveries from India have seen a sharp exponential increase, from 50,000 in May to more than 36 lakh in September. A high level of more than 70,000 recoveries reported each day. Recoveries are almost 3.8 times active cases (less than 1/4 of total cases), ”the ministry said in a statement.

“Focused, collaborative, responsive, and effective measures of early identification through high and aggressive testing, rapid surveillance and follow-up along with high-quality standardized clinical care have led to these encouraging results,” it further said in the statement.

The ministry had said on Saturday that the Covid-19 fatality rate in India dropped further to 1.66 percent.

Sixty percent of the total recovered cases come from five states: Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh, the ministry said.

The country posted the highest single-day recoveries in history of 81,533 on Saturday, according to the ministry.

India’s number of Covid-19 cases rose to 46,59,984 on Saturday with a record 97,570 infections reported in one day, while the death toll rose to 77,472 with 1,201 people succumbing to the infection in a span of 24. hours.

Sixty-nine percent of the deaths are concentrated in five states and union territories of Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi, it said.
