Four killed in collapse of a building under construction in Dera Bassi, Punjab: the Tribune India

Four people, including three workers, were killed after a two-story building collapsed in Punjab’s Mohali on Thursday morning.

Four people were killed in the incident that took place at Dera Bassi in Mohali, authorities said.

Earlier, three bodies of workers were removed from the rubble while the owner of the building, Hardev Singh (72), who suffered head injuries, was rushed to a hospital.

The owner succumbed to his injuries in the Chandigarh hospital.

Other deceased were identified as Gopi (60), Raju (46) and Ramesh (45), said Mohali Deputy Commissioner Girish Dayalan.

Four other workers working around the building survived, a spokesman said.

The rescue operation lasted four hours and a team from the National Disaster Response Force was deployed to find anyone trapped under the rubble.

The two-story commercial building collapsed after the roof of a store under construction on the second floor collapsed around 9.30 a.m. in Mira Malli Mohalla, authorities said.

A judicial investigation into the incident was ordered and Dera Bassi subdivisional magistrate Kuldeep Bawa was asked to file a report within 10 days, authorities said. – PTI
