NEW DELHI: The accusations against Maharashtra interior minister Anil Deshmukh leveled by former Bombay Police Commissioner Parambir Singh turned into a snowball in a controversy over Deshmukh’s whereabouts in February on Monday.
Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, in a letter to CM Uddhav Thackeray on Saturday, alleged that State Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh had set Deputy Police Inspector Sachin Waze “a target to accumulate 100 million rupees every month. ”
Singh claimed that to achieve the monthly “target” of 100 million rupees, Deshmukh told Waze, who headed the criminal intelligence unit, in mid-February that “there are about 1,750 bars, restaurants and other establishments in Mumbai and if a sum of 2-3 lakh rupees each was collected, a monthly collection of Rs 40-50 crore could be achieved ”.
Here are the main developments during the day:

Former Mumbai CP Param Bir Singh moved to the Supreme Court on Monday seeking a CBI investigation into alleged corrupt malpractices by Maharashtra’s Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh. The former Mumbai police commissioner also sought to overturn the order that transferred him to the National Guard department. Param Bir has claimed that the order is “arbitrary” and “illegal”.

He was in home quarantine: Anil Deshmukh
Maharashtra Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh said on Monday that he was discharged on February 15 and responded to inquiries from waiting journalists. His statement came later BJP questioned his claim to have Covid in February, pointing to his press conference on February 15.
“Some journalists were waiting for me outside the hospital after I was discharged on February 15. I was feeling depressed and weak, so I sat in the chair and answered their questions. Then I went straight to my car and drove off home, “Deshmukh said.
Deshmukh said he was in home quarantine from February 15 to 27 and left his home for the first time on February 28.
Don’t divert attention: Sharad Pawar
Head of NCP Sharad Pawar on Monday he said that the resignation demands are powerless and that the accusations are being used to divert attention from the Mansukh Hiran death case.
He said Deshmukh was hospitalized during the time that former Mumbai Police Commissioner Parambir Singh alleges that he received the information about certain officers who received instructions from the Interior Minister.

“It is clear that during the period over which the accusations were made, Anil Deshmukh was hospitalized. As is clear, such demands have no force,” said the head of the CPN, Sharad Pawar.
“If you see the letter from the former commissioner, he mentions that in mid-February some officers informed him that they had received this or that instructions from the Minister of the Interior … From February 6 to 16, Mr. Deshmuklh was admitted to the hospital due to coronavirus, “Pawar said.

However, BJP’s head of social media Amit Malviya tweeted a video of Anil Deshmukh at a press conference on February 15, calling out Pawar for his “lies.”

When questioned about this, Pawar told the media not to deviate from the subject of Mansukh Hiran’s murder.
“I am sharing the information I have with me. I do not want to comment on this. (About Anil Deshmukh) It is not important. The important thing is the car that was parked, the murder that happened and find out who it is You (the media) are leaving this serious problem and instead they are diverting what is not right, “said Pawar.

Param Bir Singh’s letter abolished the image of the Maharashtra household department: Shiv Sena
The Shiv Sena said on Monday that Maha Vikas Aghadi’s government enjoys a “good majority” and that it will not fall because of “an official”, even as it admitted that Param Bir Singh’s accusations against state Interior Minister Anil Deshmukh , have defamed the image of the latter’s department.
The Sena also said this issue has now become a “matter of prestige” for the party-led government, a day after the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) ruled out Deshmukh’s resignation.
