Former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin escapes unscathed after car accident in Rajasthan

The former captain of the Indian cricket team, Mohammad Azharuddin, escaped unharmed on Wednesday when a pickup truck he was traveling in along with three other people rolled over in the Sawai Madhopur district near Jaipur, police said. Three other passengers in the vehicle also escaped unharmed, but an employee of a restaurant near which the van overturned suffered minor injuries, said SHO Chandrabhan Singh of the Soorwal Police Station.

Singh said the vehicle rolled over in the adjoining field when the driver was negotiating traffic near a roadside restaurant and got too close to the edge of the road and became unbalanced. The accident happened just four miles from Ranthambore, the SHO said.

He said that after the accident, Azharuddin and his fellow travelers, along with the restaurant staff member, were taken to a hospital from where the former cricketer and Lok Sabha MP and his three companions were discharged.

The restaurant employee was also discharged after the first aide, the SHO said, adding that Azharuddin then resumed his journey in another vehicle and reached his destination safely.
