Ahead of the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for 2021, actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan inducted former Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Santhosh Babu, as Secretary General of his Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) on Tuesday.
Speaking during the induction ceremony, Haasan also lent his support to the ongoing farmer agitation in the country against the three farm laws recently passed by the central government during the monsoon session of parliament.
“The government must listen to the demands of farmers,” said the president of the MNM.
In awarding party membership to Santhosh Babu, Haasan said the newly appointed Secretary General voluntarily retired to serve the people of Tamil Nadu after working with the state administration as an IAS officer for nearly 25 years.

“Santhosh Babu is a doctor and had worked in the Tamil Nadu administration for almost 25 years. He still had eight years left but he resigned. He joined our group today. In the coming days, he will welcome a lot of good people to the party, ”said the southern superstar.
According to him, Santhosh Babu will be responsible for making the party’s manifesto for the upcoming state elections, along with other headquarters operations.
When asked about the role of the Tamil Nadu government in providing aid during Cyclone Nivar, Haasan said that his party is not satisfied with the work of Prime Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami.
Haasan had released Makkal Needhi Maiam on February 21, 2018 in Madurai. The party is set to contest the next Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in 2021.
