The body of Ashwani Kumar, 70, a former Himachal Pradesh Police Director General (August 2006 to 2008), was found hanging at his residence here Wednesday night. Sources said he had recently returned from Mumbai, where he had been receiving treatment for depression. He is survived by his wife and son.
A suicide note found at the scene read: “I don’t want to be a burden to anyone. Go on a journey after life ”. Born on November 15, 1950, Kumar served as head of the CBI from August 2, 2008 to November 30, 2010. He replaced Vijay Shanker when the CBI was investigating the murder case of Aarushi Talwar.
He served as Governor of Nagaland from March 21, 2013 to June 27, 2014. He resigned after the NDA assumed power. He later joined as Pro Vice Chancellor of APG Shimla University and was promoted to Chancellor. He resigned last year.
Shimla SP Mohit Chawla expressed surprise and said that he was a role model for many officers. – TNS
