Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Thursday accused Congress of “doing everything possible” to save runaway diamond Nirav Modi, who is undergoing an extradition trial in the National Bank fraud case. Punjab (PNB) at the London Westminster Magistrates Court.

The minister alleged that a member of Congress, who is also a former superior court judge, appeared as a defense witness in extradition proceedings against Nirav Modi.

“There are some overwhelming suspicious circumstances that suggest that Congress is doing everything possible to save Nirav Modi,” the minister was quoted as saying by PTI.

“A former judge is working in Congress to influence the judicial process in the UK, our investigative agency will effectively counter it,” he added.

While Prasad did not identify the judge, his BJP colleague Sambit Patra alleged that former Bombay High Court judge Abhay Thipsay has posed as a witness in the Modi case.

Tagging a photo of Thipsay with former Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Patra said: “Here in India, Rahul Gandhi questions the central government about Nirav Modi. On the other hand, Rahul’s close collaborator and Congress leader Abhay Thipsay (former judge) becomes a witness in favor of Nirav Modi. What does Rahul not want Nirav to return to India? What transaction took place between Rahul and Nirav at that party?

India is seeking Modi’s extradition for his alleged role in diverting Rs 13.5 billion rupees from the GNP coffers by fraudulently issuing letters of commitment and letters of credit, along with his uncle Mehul Choksi. CBI and ED investigations have found that Modi diverted a large portion of these funds to family members and for personal purposes.

The five-day hearing began against Modi on May 11, following the Indian government’s extradition request certified by the UK government last year. The 49-year-old man has been housed in Wandsworth Prison in southwest London since his arrest last year.

Meanwhile, the ED has already attached properties worth Rs 1873 crore belonging to Modi, while assets worth Rs 489.75 crore have been seized. Attachments include assets worth Rs 961.49 crore located in Hong Kong, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.

CBI sends video of Nirav Modi’s threats to “fictional directors”

Meanwhile, the CBI submitted a video to the UK court in which the “shell directors” associated with companies linked to Modi claimed that they were threatened with death.

A group of six Indian men can be heard in the video with each of them claiming that Modi’s brother forced them to leave Dubai and come to Cairo, Egypt, where their passports were confiscated and allegedly forced to sign dubious documents against his will. Nehal Modi.

“My name is Ashish Kumar Mohanbhai Lad, I am the owner of the same name from Sunshine Gems Limited, Hong Kong and Unity Trading Fze, Dubai,” says one of the men on the June 2018 recording.

“Nirav Modi called me and said he would implicate me for theft. He used the worst expletives and said he would kill me … he did a lot to us, “he says in Hindi.

These witnesses relate to the Execution Directorate’s (ED) discovery that the fictitious directors / owners / managers were appointed to a number of shell companies in Hong Kong and Dubai, which were however under Modi’s direct control.

According to the case of the Indian government, several PNB staff members conspired with Modi to ensure that LoUs were issued to these companies without ensuring that they were subject to the required credit check, without registering the issuance of the LoUs, and without charging commission. required on transactions. This resulted in a fraud of almost $ 2 billion.
