Twitter deleted the tweet by former interim CBI chief and retired IPS officer M Nageswara Rao, calling the death of social activist Swami Agnivesh a “safe trip.”
Twitter said the tweet violated its rules against abuse and harassment and has temporarily limited some of the account’s features.
Rao, a 1986 IPS officer who served in CBI until July 2019, before retiring as Director General, Fire Services, Civil Defense and Home Guards, on July 31, tweeted Friday night: “GOOD RIDDANCE. You were an anti-Hindu wearing saffron clothes. You did enormous damage to Hinduism. I am ashamed that you were born a Telugu Brahmin … Lion in sheep’s clothing. My complaint against Yamaraj is why did he wait so long?
Why this tweeted by @MNageswarRaoIPS asking the Hindus not to mourn the death of Agnivesh, who only vilified Hinduism. HURT both the communists, congis, xihadis?
Now, together they have their account locked.
Let’s follow him en masse to give an adequate response to this terrorist clique …! https://t.co/THPBN39YvR pic.twitter.com/mFbAuw5NiL– Ritu (सत्यसाधक) #EqualRightsForHindus (@RituRathaur) September 12, 2020
The charge was severely condemned by Bandhua Mukti Morcha, the bonded laborer organization that Agnivesh had founded, while BJP National Secretary General P Muralidhar Rao said that “Hindu tradition” means not discussing “negative things” immediately after death. Legacy issues can be discussed later, he said.
Responding to his tweet on Agnivesh, the Indian Police Foundation, an independent think tank on police surveillance and law enforcement, posted on Twitter: “By tweeting such hateful messages… you have desecrated the police uniform and shamed the government. It demoralizes the entire police force … especially young officers. “
