SHIMLA: Former director of CBI Ashwani kumar (69), who had also served as governor of Manipur and Nagaland, was found hanging from the attic of his Shimla residence on Wednesday.
The police officers found a suicide note in which he allegedly wrote that he suffered from an illness and a disability. The note ended with: “I am ending my life. Everyone be happy. My soul embarks on a new journey. “Kumar is survived by his wife and son.
There was no immediate clarity on what illness or disability Kumar, who hailed from Nahan in the Sirmaur district of Himachal, suffered from.
His wife, son and daughter-in-law were at home all day and told police that the family had lunch together as usual. After lunch, Kumar went for a walk to the mall and also visited the Kali Bari temple. Upon returning home, he completed his puja and also meditated, DGP Kundu said. The body was discovered by Kumar’s son and daughter-in-law at 7:10 pm when they noticed that he was not in his usual place of meditation. The family broke down two doors before reaching the attic, where they saw him hanging.
The IPS officer of the 1973 group was DGP in Himachal between 2006 and 2008. He was then appointed director of CBI and served between 2008 and 2010.
