Sulochana Subrahmanyam, mother of Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, passed away on Saturday. Mr. Jaishankar reported his mother’s passing in a tweet, along with a photo of her.
“Deeply saddened to report the passing of my mother Sulochana Subrahmanyam today. We ask her friends and supporters to keep her in their thoughts. Our family is especially grateful to all those who supported her during her illness,” he said.
Mr. Jaishankar also shared a photo of his mother, who was in her 80s. He is survived by his sons, Jaishankar, S Vijay Kumar and Sanjay Subrahmanyam.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, BJP leader Ram Madhav, and Niti Aayog CEO Amitabh Kant were among those who condemned the passing of Ms Subrahmanyam.
Her husband K Subrahmanyam, who was a leading expert on strategic affairs and was known as the father of India’s nuclear doctrine, died in February 2011.
