A well-known e-sports entity, GEM Esports, has shared the response of the ministry on its Instagram account in which the Central Public Information Officer has responded to the query submitted through an RTI:
MEITY Was Asked – The query submitted read:
“Dear sir / mom
In the month of September 2020, the Government of India, in consultation with its Department (MEITY), banned several Chinese applications. One of which was Pubg Mobile Game. Now, there is a lot of news saying that the game is being relaunched and the same is made specifically for the Indian public and it will not be harmful to the nation and its citizens. I’d like to know if your department has granted any such permission to the game so it can be relaunched. “
– RTI filed on: 11/30/20
MEITY has responded by saying:
“MEITY has not given any permission for the release of PUBG”
– Reply on: 11/12/20
It is worth noting that InsideSport was the first news platform to report that PUBG relaunch reports / attempts are not approved by the Ministry and that no such permission has been granted to anyone.
Officials close to PUBG Mobile also admit that ‘the return of the game is not possible even in New Years’
After persecuting MEITY officials continuously for the past 30 days, the government has yet to grant a hearing to PUBG officials. And the great information coming from both ends is that the gambling ban will not be lifted for a few more months. Sources on the PUBG side have informed InsideSport that the matter will not be resolved soon.
“ PUBG’s efforts were made with the correct seriousness, but the situation is such that there have been no headwinds or progress on it. We don’t see the game returning to India in the next few months, at least not before March 2021. It’s unfortunate, but everyone has to live with it. “ said the official closely following developments by PUBG.
It’s clear from this statement from the person in the thick of things and MEITY’s RTI response – that PUBG Mobile will not be returning to India before March 2021.
