Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said on Monday that it has introduced several technological innovations to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

On the occasion of National Technology Day, DIAL declared that it has implemented innovative technology, using mobile towers, hand torches and luggage tunnels, which deploy ultraviolet (UV) rays to disinfect surfaces, to face the threat of the coronavirus.

Sensor-based faucets have been installed in passenger toilets, a foot-acting disinfectant dispenser, a sensor-based drinking water fountain and a paddle for non-contact use, DIAL said.

The passenger car disinfection system and disinfecting shoe mats are some of the unique facilities for passenger safety amid the Covid-19 pandemic, DIAL said in its press release.

“These rugs are soaked with chemicals that will disinfect passengers’ shoes,” he said.

DIAL indicated that it will take about five seconds to completely disinfect used cars. “The used cars and trays can be passed one after the other, where each one will take approximately five seconds to come out virus free,” the statement said.

The UV tunnel, which will help disinfect passenger bags, was installed in Terminal 3 of Delhi Airport, in the luggage belt area.

Mobile sanitizing towers will sanitize various terminal building locations. These towers are placed in properly cordoned off areas of a terminal and use UV lamps for disinfection. The towers can be manually relocated to other areas for disinfection once an area has been disinfected, DIAL said.

The hand sanitizing torch will be used to disinfect desktop computers, laptops and other devices, he said.

This occurs as the number of coronavirus cases in the country approaches the 70,000 mark. On Monday, the Ministry of Health updated Covid-19’s national count to 67,152.

The national coronavirus blockade, which took effect on March 25, is scheduled to be lifted on May 17. Several blockade relaxations have already been implemented across the country, while the Center decided to operate 15 interstate passenger trains starting May 12. repatriating stranded migrant workers to their places of origin is also in full effect.
