NEW DELHI – Owned by Walmart Flipkart it said Tuesday it will help generate more than 70,000 direct jobs and billions of indirect seasonal jobs in the country ahead of the holiday season and its Big Billion Days (BBD) sale.
The Bengaluru-based company said that while direct job opportunities will be created throughout Flipkart’s supply chain, including roles such as delivery executives, pickers, packers, and sorters, additional indirect jobs will also be created at partners’ locations. Flipkart sellers and kiranas.
This will be further complemented by job creation in ancillary industries, including supplier locations and transportation partners, as the entire ecosystem expands for the holiday season, according to a statement.
“Expanding and strengthening the supply chain will help create a robust system that will enable millions of new e-commerce users to shop online seamlessly as thousands of ecosystem players prepare for the holiday season,” he added.
Ecommerce companies see a large portion of their business during holiday sales and make significant investments ahead of time to increase their capacity and be able to handle the surge in orders.
Last year, Flipkart and its rival Amazon had announced the creation of more than 1.4 lakh of temporary supply chain jobs, last-mile connectivity and customer support in preparation for their holiday sales.
Flipkart said the “complexity and scale” of its BBD sale requires investments in capacity, storage, sorting, packaging, human resources, training and delivery that help generate additional employment during the holiday season.
“This year, Flipkart is employing nearly 70,000 people in its supply chain, in addition to generating hundreds of thousands of indirect jobs at the locations of its vendor and other ecosystem partners,” he added.
The addition of more than 50,000 kiranas by Flipkart for last-mile delivery, which was announced last week, will also create thousands of seasonal jobs to deliver millions of packages this holiday season, he said.

As a leader in e-commerce, Flipkart’s training and investment in the workforce is widely recognized and contributes to skills development and improves employability, he added.
Flipkart is running training programs for its direct hires in various aspects of the supply chain through a combination of classroom and digital training, enhancing their understanding of supply chain management.
These include customer support, delivery, installation, and security and sanitation measures along with the handling of portable devices.
Training during this period will help impart future-proof skills to the participating workforce, allowing for career progression in India’s fast-growing e-commerce industry, Flipkart said.
For vendor partners, micro, small and medium-sized businesses (MSMEs), and artisans, who also start preparing for the holiday season months in advance, Flipkart provides separate training in the area of warehouse management, packaging, and more.
The entire hiring and improvement process is carried out following the government’s National Capacity Development Mission.
In a separate statement, Flipkart said it will now allow customers to get their goods and services tax identification number (GSTIN) on their invoices, allowing them to claim an input tax credit on their purchases.
“In a first of many initiatives to enable online commerce for businesses and enterprises, the ability to enable GSTIN on their invoices will help millions of business entities claim an input tax credit on their business-related purchases, saving money. up to 28% on their purchases, “the statement said.
The platform will serve different types and sizes of organizations in corporations, offices attached to facilities such as manufacturing and warehousing, clinics, law firms, consultancies and institutes, including service organizations such as schools, colleges, hospitals, banks, beauty salons, among others.
Capabilities like GST billing for office-related purchases can further help these organizations save money and reallocate resources appropriately.
Flipkart said it has seen an average query of around 4,000 per month looking for such capabilities to support their businesses.
To take advantage of the GST entry tax credit, businesses must choose a product that has GST-enabled vendors, add their GSTIN details during checkout, and claim the GST invoice to claim the benefit.
