New Delhi: With a sudden spike in the number of Covid-19 cases in the national capital, some media outlets have been publishing reports about a temporary ban on flight and train services between Maharashtra and Delhi.

However, the so-called government dismissed these rumors. The Civil Aviation Ministry spokesman told ET Now that “they have not received any such information about the suspension of flights between Mumba and Delhi.”

Even the spokesperson for the Indian Railways also confirmed to ET Now that “the reports of train stoppages between Mumbai and Delhi are unfounded and speculative. Railways has not made any such decision.”

Delhi witnessed a sudden spike in Covid-19 cases since October 28, when the daily increase surpassed the 5,000 mark for the first time and crossed the 8,000 mark on November 11. In the past 24 hours, as of Friday morning, Delhi recorded 7,500 new coronavirus cases.

The highest single-day peak to date (8,593 cases) was recorded on November 11, when 85 deaths were recorded. On Thursday 98 deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll in the national capital to more than 8,000.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain confirmed on Friday that contact tracing for COVID-19 is currently underway in the national capital and that a house-to-house survey will be conducted in the containment zones beginning in today to monitor symptomatic patients.

Jain also reiterated that citizens should make it a rule to wear a mask every time they leave their home. In addition, a notice to increase the fine to Rs 2,000 for not wearing a mask will be distributed everywhere today, the Delhi Health Minister added.
