Jamshedpur:
Five people have been arrested for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, police said today.
The girl was in the Bagbera area of the city with a friend on Tuesday when the defendant kidnapped them at gunpoint and took them to Kaliadih Gaushala, the Tamil Vanan police superintendent said.
The defendant tied up her friend there and raped the girl, the official added.
Among those arrested is a minor who has been sent to a children’s home, while the others were sent to jail, he said.
The defendants have been identified as Shankar Tiu, Roshan Kujur, Suraj Patro and Sunny Soren, the official said.
A domestic-made pistol and two active cartridges were also recovered, he said.
“Shortly after the incident, the police registered a case and began investigating it. The girl had initially said that she had been abducted while returning from dance class. However, it was found (that she was) wrong during the investigation,” Vanan said . He said.
