Chief Elections Commissioner (CEC) Sunil Arora previously addressed a press conference here and said final figures will come later based on all votes cast by the electorate.
“As of 5 pm, voter turnout in the Bihar phase one elections was 52.24%. In the 2015 elections, the phase one turnout was 54.94% and in the elections in Lok Sabha was 53.54%. Voting is still ongoing in some places and the final figures will come out soon, “Arora said.

The CEC said that 12 of the 16 districts where the elections were held are affected by left-wing extremism (LWE).
He said voting time had to be extended at 12 polling stations due to the late start of the process.
He thanked the voters, the political parties and the local administration for the smooth running of the elections.
“I thank the voters of Bihar who came out to vote at this time, all the political entities that showed maturity in conducting the elections and the local administration that made such comprehensive arrangements taking into account Covid-19,” said Arora.
The CEC said it was important to hold free, fair and secure elections.
He also urged voters to come forward in even greater numbers in phase two and three of the elections to choose the government they wanted in the state.
Deputy Election Commissioner Sudeep Jain said the overall performance of the EVMs had been very satisfactory today, except for a few problems in the Jamui constituency.
“The failure today was only 0.22 pc in the ballot units. Out of 41,689 ballot units, only 0.22 pc had to be replaced. It was 0.25 pc in the control units among the 31,371 control units and 1.28% of VVPAT 31,371 had to be replaced, “he said.
“In Jamui, due to the longer replacement time in 12 polling stations, the voting time had to be extended to 7 pm. Apart from this, no other complaints of any kind were received regarding the operation of EVM and VVPAT,” he added . .
Eighty-nine cases of violations were recorded under the IPC and NDMA sections of the Act related to violation of Covid-19 norms in the first phase of the surveys, another official said. (AND ME)
