None of us can forget the “insult” and “humiliation” we faced on August 5 when Article 370 was repealed “illegally” and “undemocratic”, said former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti after being released as the Union Territory administration reversed the Public Safety Law charges against him, more than a year after his arrest.

“We need to get it back Delhi darbar took (Article 370) from us illegally and in an undemocratic manner. Not only this, but the Kashmir issue must also be solved for which several Kashmiris have given their lives. I know that the road will not be easy, but we must continue this fight. Today when I am released, I demand the release of others who are still illegally detained, “Mufti said in his message to the people.

The PDP was detained more than a year ago following the repeal of the old state’s special status. The incident occurred just two days before the Supreme Court heard the matter related to his arrest.

The Deputy Commissioner ordered the PSA to be revoked with immediate effect. His period of detention had been extended for a period of three months on July 31 of this year. Mehbooba, 60, who was initially taken into preventive custody on August 5 of last year and then registered under the strict PSA on February 6, was transferred to her official residence on April 7 after authorities declared her a subsidiary jail.

Her exultant daughter Iltija expressed her joy that her mother was finally released, which, according to her, was “illegal, illegal and a complete breach of justice.” “Now I hope that other young people who have been detained for more than a year in various jails in and out of the state will also be released soon,” Iltija told PTI.

He also said goodbye to his mother’s Twitter account with a tweet: “Now that Ms Mufti’s illegal detention is finally coming to an end, I would like to thank everyone who supported me through these difficult times. I am indebted to gratitude to all of you. This is Iltija’s signature … “Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, also tweeted that he was pleased to learn that Mehooba had been released after more than a year in detention. “His continued detention was a travesty and was against the basic principles of democracy. Welcome Mehbooba,” he tweeted.

Last month, Iltija again appealed to the Supreme Court against her mother’s continued detention under the strict PSA. Mehbooba, chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was arrested on the eve of the abrogation of special status to Jammu and Kashmir and its bifurcation into two Union Territories on August 5 last year.

Omar and his father Farooq Abdullah had also been detained under the PSA, but were released in March this year.
