This afternoon a fire broke out in an intensive care ward of a hospital in Pune, Maharashtra. Three fine locomotives were moved to the site, the ANI news agency reported.
It is not yet clear if any of the patients or medical staff at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital in the Pune cantonment area were injured in the fire. The hospital is about 150 km from the state capital, Mumbai.
Last month, eight coronavirus patients died in a large fire that broke out in the intensive care ward of a private hospital in Ahmedabad, Gujarat.
“A staff member whose PPE caught fire ran out of the pavilion to put it out, but the fire quickly spread to the entire pavilion,” Rajesh Bhatt, additional fire chief for the Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services, was quoted as saying by the agency. of Reuters news. Approximately 45 patients were admitted to the 50-bed hospital at the time of the accident.
The incident comes at a time when Maharashtra, the state hardest hit by the Covid outbreak, is battling a growing number of cases. The state posted its biggest jump in a single day in cases with more than 19,000 fresh infections. Across India, the number of cases has passed the 40 lakh mark.
