Fire breaks out at City Center Mall in Mumbai | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: A fire broke out at the City Center shopping mall in central Mumbai on Thursday night creating panic among locals and residents of the adjoining building.
People present at the mall were safely evacuated, while some residents of a nearby building fled their homes for safety after the incident.

Samajwadi Party leader Rais Shaik, who lives in the building with his family, stated that both structures are on the same lot.
“It was a level 2 fire and the smoke caused panic among the locals. Few of the residents of the building left their homes for safety after noticing the smoke. A fire also occurred in the mall earlier. It has many stores that sell mobile accessories which can create problems during these types of incidents. ”
Mustafa Kapadia, a witness said. “There are many mobile accessory stores in the mall. We hear the sound of batteries exploding. Since it was closing time, there were very few people inside the mall. They came out safely after noticing the fire. ”
Local BMC district officials stated that the fire started in a store on the second floor, but the store was difficult to reach due to the thick smoke. Firefighters managed to open the mall windows to release the smoke and gained access to the store on the second floor. Firefighters try to control the blaze with the help of seven fire trucks.
