MUMBAI: Mumbai police filed a new case against Republic TVThe editorial team accuses them of generating discontent among members of the city police.
NM Police Joshi Marg recorded an offense under Section 3 (1) of the Police (Incitement to Disappointment) Act 1922, a Central Act, along with sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Complainant, Deputy Inspector Shashikant Pawar of Special Section 1, appointed Deputy Editor of Republic TV Sagrika Mitra, presenter Shivani Gupta, Deputy Editor Shawan Sen, Executive Editor Niranjan Narayanswamy and other editorial staff and also the “newsroom in charge.”
According to the complaint, the defendant issued a report amounting to incitement to discontent among members of the police force and defamation of the Mumbai police.
The FIR stated that while Pawar was watching Republic TV around 7pm on October 22 (Thursday), he saw a slug ‘The Biggest Story Tonight’, with host Shivani Gupta asking: “Rebellion against Parambir? The officers superiors that are part of the investigation give details “. The presenter, according to the complaint, alleged that Singh was spoiling the name of the police force and using his power to settle personal scores and that many officers were not happy with him.
Pawar in his complaint alleged that presenter Shivani Gupta also said that Republic TV had exclusive information that there was a rebellion against the main Mumbai policeman.
The complaint quoted Gupta as saying on air: “So now the rebellion is also brewing within the Mumbai police itself. This, of course, is a matter of his own institutional credibility … Shawan Sen is indeed following the case very closely and has confirmed it for us .. Parambir Singh he’s bent on tarnishing the image, single-handedly tarnishing the image of the Mumbai police. ”
The crime contemplated in article 3 (1) of the law carries up to three years in prison in Maharashtra and it is recognizable and not subject to bail.
