The Roorkee Additional Chief Judicial Magistrates Court in Haridwar District ordered the police to bring a case against the director of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee and four other staff members for alleged “financial fraud” in scholarships, central grants and construction money.

The order was approved by the court on Wednesday while listening to a petition filed by a former IIT staff member, Manipal Sharma, who alleged that IIT Director Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi, Manish Shrikhande, Dean of Sponsored Research & Industrial Consultancy (SRIC ), Jitendra Dimri, Registrar’s Assistant (SRIC), Dhiraj Upadhyay, Junior Assistant (SRIC) and Rajesh Kumar’s Secretary (SRIC), committed millions of rupees worth of financial fraud for more than a decade by diverting grant money and other aid to your bank accounts.

Sonika Srivastava, media cell in charge, IIT Roorkee, in a press release on behalf of the institute said: “The matter is already being investigated by the police and the institute had already filed a complaint against one of the defendants Upadhyay in June this year. year for diverting Rs 1.05 crore to his bank account. ”

Manipal Sharma alleged that, before retiring on July 31 of this year after 37 years of service at the IIT, he raised the issue with administrators for taking action, but they ignored him, instead behaving inappropriately. against him. . However, the Roorkee Kotwali Police Station, which the court has ordered to register a case, has yet to register a case.

Rajesh Shah, Police Station Officer, Roorkee Kotwali said: “The warrant was received from the court on Thursday. However, we have yet to register a case as we are reviewing the warrant. Instructions would be followed soon. ”
