RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh police registered an FIR on Wednesday against Republic television chief Arnab Goswami for allegedly vitiating an atmosphere of harmony through provocative comments on the basis of the community and creating animosity between them (different communities) through their statements in the television debate.
Chhattisgarh Health Minister TS Singhdeo and PCC chief Mohan Markam filed separate police complaints against Goswami at the civilian lines police station in Raipur on Wednesday and blamed him “for spreading rumors, playing communal barbarities in the context of the lynching case of the Palghar mafia “.
The police had registered the case under various IPC Sections of 153A (promoting enmity between different groups), 295 A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious sentiments), and 502 (2) (making statements that create enmity and hatred between different classes )
Congressional leaders in Chhattisgarh also filed police complaints in various districts seeking Goswami’s arrest. The leaders clashed strongly with the editor-in-chief of Republic TV for allegedly spreading hate rumors and trying to defame Speaker of Congress Sonia Gandhi during one of the debates.
“Arnab Goswami’s false and spiteful comments cannot be cited as journalism. He is interested in spreading the same hateless and unfounded rumors that trained RSS cadres are making on social media platforms,” said Shailesh Nitin Trivedi, president. from the Congress Media Cell.
Leaders of Congress have been demanding his arrest.
