Justin Langer keeps ‘fingers crossed’ on Cameron Green’s availability for the Day-Night Test against India that begins December 17 in Adelaide. Green suffered a mild concussion after being hit in the head by a shot from Jasprit Bumrah in the pink ball practice game at SCG.
Green, who has yet to play a test match, was substituted out of the warm-up game and was being monitored by Cricket Australia medical staff. He is now in Adelaide, having flown together with the other test team players who were part of Team Australia A.
“Fingers crossed,” Langer told Channel Seven of Green’s availability. “The guys from Australia A arrived a couple of hours ago. He appeared with a big smile on his face. [A] Potentially, a huge opportunity awaits you to make your test debut. He looks in a very good mood. He has training tomorrow and Wednesday. Fingers crossed, he’ll be good to go, he’s a real talent. ”
Green’s potential availability will be good news for Australia, which has recently been hit by a number of injury problems. David Warner suffered adductor strain during the ODI series against India and was ruled out for the opening test. Will Pucovski was also ruled out after suffering a concussion in the first practice game.
Marcus Harris and Moises Henriques have been included in the Australian team for the opening test following the injuries of Warner and Pucovski, who now hope to be fit for the Boxing Day test at MCG. Meanwhile, Mitchell Starc has rejoined the Australia camp after leaving the Australian white ball team after the first of three T20Is against tourists on compassionate grounds after learning of a family illness.
Despite the absence of some players, Langer is confident that Australia has a hitting lineup that can do a good job. “Wait and see Thursday. We have a very good team no matter which path we take. Dave Warner was certainly a huge loss for us a few weeks ago, but I’m really sure we have enough hitting to make a big difference in this series Langer said.
