The Congress party said on Wednesday that the final decision on the formation of the non-BJP DDC (district development council) in Jammu and Kashmir, in places where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) does not have a majority, will be made by the high command of the party.
Of the 278 seats whose results have been declared by the J&K Election Commission so far, the Congressional party won 26 seats in DDC polls, which were conducted in eight phases on 280 seats in Jammu and Kashmir.
After publishing the results of the DDC polls, Ravinder Sharma, spokesperson for the Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congressional Committee told ANI: “We contest the DDC elections with the alliance led by the National Conference (NC) on the basis of sharing seats. We may consider forming a district council other than the BJP, in places where the BJP is not a majority. The final decision will be made by the High Command of Congress ”.
“Only five of twenty districts, the BJP obtained the majority, whereas in the rest it is the Congress or other parties that do not belong to the BJP. We will think about supporting parties that are not from the BJP where the BJP is not in the majority but the final decision will be made by the High Command ”, he added.
Jammu and Kashmir Election Commissioner KK Sharma declared the outcome of the DDC elections on Wednesday, according to which BJP won 75, NC won 67 seats Independent registered victory on 50 seats, PDP won 27 seats, Congress won 26 seats, JKAP gained 12 seats, JKPC gained 8 seats, JKPM gained 3 seats, CPI (M) gained 5 seats while JKNPP and PDF gained 2 seats each and BSP gained 1 seat.
Results from two electoral districts, one in Bandipora and Kupwara districts, are still awaited as the counting of votes has been postponed until further orders, officials said.
