Fighter Babita Phogat Quits Her Government Job To Join Politics With BJP

International wrestler Babita Phogat, who unsuccessfully challenged the 2019 assembly polls, resigned on Wednesday as deputy director of the Haryana Sports Department.

She is likely to contest the bypoll in the state as a candidate for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

“I will actively participate in politics and campaign in the Baroda bypoll assembly (in the state), in addition to the Assembly elections in Bihar,” he told the media after his resignation.

She and Kabaddi player Kavita Devi were named deputy directors in the sports department on July 30.

Winner of the 2014 Commonwealth Games, Babita had unsuccessfully challenged Dadri’s 2019 assembly poll.

Previously, he had resigned from the post of deputy police inspector on August 13, 2019, a day after joining the BJP with his father Mahavir Singh Phogat, winner of the Droncahraya award.

Mahavir, whose character was played by Aamir Khan in the Hindi film “Dangal,” and his daughters, Olympian and two-time Commonwealth Games gold medalist Babita, and international wrestler Sangeeta Phogat, were also on display.
