The leader of the National Conference, Farooq Abdullah, will be the chairman of the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration and Mehbooba Mufti of the People’s Democratic Party, the vice chairman of the six-party group, a senior leader said on Saturday.
The announcement was made after a meeting of the members of the People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration at Mufti’s residence in Srinagar. North Carolina Vice President Omar Abdullah was also present at the meeting.
“Within a month a document will be prepared through which we will present the facts behind the lies that are being spread. It will be a tribute to the J&K people who are being slandered, ”said Sajjad Lone of the People’s Conference, quoted by the ANI news agency.
The six parties: the National Conference (NC), the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), the Peoples’ Conference (PC), the Communist Party of Marxist India (CPI-M), the Peoples’ Movement (PM ) and the Awami National Conference (ANC) – came together earlier this month to form the alliance to peacefully seek the restoration of the former state’s special status and fight for the rights of people in the troubled region.

“We are anti-BJP, we are not anti-national,” Farooq Abdullah said after the People’s Alliance meeting for the Gupkar Declaration on Saturday. “It is not an anti-national Jamat, our aim is to ensure that the rights of the people of J&K and Ladakh are restored. Attempts to divide us in the name of religion will fail. It is not a religious fight, “he added.
The leader of the CPI (M), Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, will be the coordinator of the alliance and Sajjad Lone has been appointed spokesperson. The leaders also adopted the flag of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir as a symbol. The alliance will publish a white paper within a month on governance in Jammu and Kashmir for the last year since the repeal of Article 370, Lone told reporters after the meeting.

The leaders of the six parties had held their first meeting on October 15 after the Mufti’s release from arrest. This meeting was held at the residence of Farooq Abdullah in Srinagar. Abdullah had said that the People’s Alliance Declaration for Gupkar will push for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s constitutional position before August 5, 2019, when the region’s special status was revoked and divided into two union territories.
“We will fight for the restoration of what was taken from Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh. Ours is a constitutional battle, we want the government of India to give back to the people of the state the rights they had before August 5, 2019, ”said Abdullah.
